Journal Entries

DAY 1
So far, I have actually enjoyed this new society. I get to sleep in every day until 8:30, and wake up to a healthy breakfast to get my day started. My neighbors who work near me, walk or ride our bikes to work every morning, depending on the weather. The weather is usually a comfortable temperature to be outdoors for a while. When I got to work this morning, I had my first Fossil Fuel Free Society meeting at the FFFS Headquarters to talk about our new solar wind farm project. Everything we have been working on has been a success, like the use of cars, plastic, and paper being banned from society. Somethings are hard getting used to, but it will be worth it in the long run.
DAY 2
Today, I went shopping for Christmas, I have saved so much money from being here! My car has barely been used because i find it much healthier to walk to places unless it is cold out or too far away. During work, I had to go to the Climate change committee where we discussed how to keep your climate comfortable depending on the region. If you live in a cool region, the use of windbreaks to protect homes from cold winter winds and allow the winter sun to reach the south-facing windows to make it warmer without having to use as much heat. If you live in a hot-humid region, make sure there is summer breeze coming toward your home, maximize the summer shade with trees that still allow the sun. These tips will be very useful during the winter and summer season, they will also help me save energy by not using as much heat and air conditioning.
DAY 3
Today was a different day, Saturdays are the days when no one works for long hours. After Lunch, I spent the day looking for good garage sales. Once every 6 months, we have a town wide garage sale, this enables people to buy reusable products instead of throwing them out. Recycling has become a very significant part in society. Every school, job, and home must recycle every reusable product. Paper has become illegal due to the use of trees, this is not as big of an issue because we can still use computers.

Invitation to a Friend

Dear Paige,
I know you are probably busy with work and everything, but I just wanted to stop by and say hello! You are deeply missed at the FFFS Society, I have been talking about you ever since I got here! The FFFS committee has been trying to come up with excellent ways to making our world a better place. All of our homes are solar powered and every car uses electricity so we don't need to spend a fortune on gas. Think about the amount of money you are saving with gas alone! I have become a lot more active during my day, since we my job is 3 miles away from home, I can either walk or ride my bike to work. Saving energy also means saving money, so christmas will be very exciting this year! By using less fossil fuels, the emissions of carbon dioxide are decreased, which helps the risk of global warming.   Reducing our dependance on fossil fuel resources, can make our new society a much better environment to live in. You should definitely come and check it out! It is not much different then your society, but instead of relying on other nations for everyday goods, we can become an independent nation by changing our lives with the help from other people like you!

Please try and get back to me as soon as possible!
Love,
Jaime Stacy

Government

This government of the Fossil Fuel Free Society will be a democracy. Every person has the right to speak on their own behalf. If they have a problem with something, they can try to change it. This will limit the abuse of power by getting the approval of the society, and not just by one person. This governments goal is to make the world a better place, economically and socially. We are not a secure government if we are getting resources from other governments. If we find ways to cut down on non-renewable resources independently, than our world could become a more safer and healthier environment.

Declaration of Independence

We the people, of the Fossil Fuel Free Society, here by known as the FFFS, has determined that our current society has gained too much dependence on non-renewable energy sources such as oil, coal and natural gas. These habits need to be changed quickly for many valid reasons. First, since fossil fuel is a non-renewable source, there is not an infinite amount. In the near future, the resources will run dry which will be a major decrease in the economy and have a devastating affect on society as we know it. Second, our society has a major dependance on foreign oil, which mainly comes from countries with unstable governments. This situation causes a very high security risk for our country. Finally, these resources are terrible for the environment, which can have an unhealthy affect on people and our economy. Global warming has become a major issue because carbon dioxide gets trapped in the atmosphere, if the average temperature of the earth increases it will have a major effect on mankind.
The FFFS is declaring our society independent from fossil fuel resources. There will be rules that every person and business will have to abide by to make this society a possibility. We believe that this will help strengthen our economy and make our nation a more secure place. Our new government will subsidize the creation of wind, solar, and any other renewable energy.

Rules

1. Every building must be built with the latest technology for efficiency.
2. Every home must be energy self sufficient, solar, wind, geothermal, etc.
3. Automobile manufacturers must only build electric vehicles.
